Lineage of the Future
Exhibition synopsis
Sulala — Lineage of the Future brings together six larger-than-life sculptural portraits by George Petrides with historical film and archival footage. Modelled on his grandmother, mother, father, himself, his wife, and his daughter, the works trace a family’s journey across a century, from Smyrna to Athens to New York. Recycled PETG forms are printed at large scale, reworked by hand, and finished with metal coatings, patinas and pigments. The sculptures and bilingual interpretive materials are complete. Hosting enquiries are welcome in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar; presentation requirements and dates are agreed with each institution.
Short biography
George Petrides (born Athens, 1964) is a sculptor based in Athens and New York who makes figurative sculpture for public spaces. His portraits explore family memory, historical experience and the ways inherited stories take physical form. Commissions include works for Tiffany & Co. and the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and the White House accepted Davy Crockett at the Alamo as a Presidential Gift in 2025. His public sculpture record counts forty permanent placements, completed and in progress, in eight countries. He studied Classics at Harvard College (B.A., 1985), earned an M.B.A. and M.A. at Stanford University (1993), held senior roles at Lazard Frères and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, and received a Certificate in Sculpture from the New York Studio School in 2022.
